The family of a 71-year-old woman burned to death in a New York City elevator says she was originally from Louisiana. Family members say Deloris Gillespie grew up in Bastrop, moving to New York as a young woman.

Police say Jerome Isaac cornered Gillespie in the elevator on December 17 as it opened on the fifth floor of her apartment building in the Prospect Heights neighborhood. He then sprayed her with gasoline and set her ablaze as she screamed. Surveillance cameras captured Isaac wearing an exterminator’s mask and gloves as he ignited her with a barbecue lighter.
