Filipino same-sex couples were among the hundreds who lined up outside of New York City’s Marriage Bureau to be among the first to take advantage of their new right to marry.

The first day of New York’s Marriage Equality Act took effect last Sunday.

With the expected rush, the Marriage Bureau held a special lottery that gave 823 same-sex couples their marriage licenses yesterday.

One of the lucky couples is number 690 – Filipino-American Charles Ignacio and his boyfriend, John Catania.
