NY ban on cutting cheese outdoors leaves shoppers fuming

By musiclover - Tue Jun 28, 2:11 pm

A new rule that prohibits slicing cheese in the open air at local greenmarkets has left shoppers fuming in New York.

They say that the regulation means pre-packaged cheese, which defeats the purpose of buying fresh.

Under rules now being enforced by the state’s department of agriculture and markets, farmers are no longer allowed to slice and wrap their cheese wheels at markets in New York unless they have a license to process food.

“It’s silly – you should be able to buy exactly the amount you want,” the New York Daily News quoted Mia Spence, 34, who was shopping at Union Square Greenmarket Monday, as saying.
